Douk-Douk Pocket Knife

A$55.00

These pocket knives were designed in 1929 by the cutlery firm M.C, Cognet who continue making them to this day. It is simple in construction but a brilliant (if slightly vicious looking) knife.

Made from carbon steel it is easily sharpened but remember as with all carbon steel blades to keep it dry and regularly oiled. It is known as a ‘slipjoint’ knife with the blade folding into the handle, the strong backspring stops the knife from from snapping closed and will fold to 90º on opening/closing and then can be safely closed.

The blade is acid-engraved with arabesques and is shaped like a scimitar and the handle has a ‘dock-dock’ or Melanesian spirit. The company distributed these knives to the French colonies and produced variations on the handle engraving.
