Mungo: Skipping Block Cushion Cover: Marbles, Maypole, Leap Frog and Hopscotch 50 x 50cm
It has been some years since we stocked Mungo and we are excited to have their beautiful products back in store. Stunning designs woven on old restored looms these pieces excite our textile designing heart. These amazing cushion covers are woven on Mungo’s vintage restored looms in 100 % hard wearing cotton, this fabric is woven on a 1970s Dornier loom. I know this pattern as ‘monks belt’ and it is a great alternative and still compliments our vintage floral cushions. This cushion is a classic 50 x 50cm with a 100% feather insert made for us here in Melbourne.
As Mungo says: The geometric pattern of the Skipping Block cloth comes to life through a weaving technique known as ‘Halvdräll’. Many Mungo designs are based on historic weaving techniques and patterns – drawing from our vast collection of antique weaving books, collected by our Master Weaver and founder, Stuart Holding, over the years. For the Skipping Block Cushions, our designer Lenore drew inspiration from a weave of Scandinavian origin, known as ‘Halvdräll’. Playing with the design, she experimented with a whimsical palette of colours. First laying out her designs on graph paper, trialling out colours, before testing our samples on our looms. Then to be tried, tested and refined until the winning colour combinations were ready. A design of Scandinavian origin, historically used in hand weaving, the Halvdräll’ pattern is achieved through a series of floating weft threads. The weft (crosswise threads) ‘float’ above the warp (lengthwise threads) for textural effect.
Combined with a striking use of colour and contrast that gives the Skipping Block its contemporary look and feel.
Woven with a strong cotton yarn but still with a soft luxurious handle.
