Quilted Block Print Skirt: Mid Indigo and Cream

A$298.00

Many years ago I made a series of skirts based on antique quilted petticoats. I had the silk and cotton fabrics quilted here in Melbourne to my specifications, but sadly those machines have gone off to the tip many years ago. I’ve been wanting to do some more but it has taken awhile to find the right weight quilted cotton. This is it! The fabric is a beautiful block printed cotton voile that has been machine quilted with cotton wadding. Please note that with this handmade fabric there might be a variation of colour over the garment. There maybe a slight variation in the colour between the top and the quilted sections, this is due to opacity of the wadding, the voile is the same print, fabric and colours in both areas.

The skirt is made with the plain non-quilted fabric at the top for softness that is lightly gathered into the waistband. The bottom section is the quilted fabric. The quilting gives the two layers of cotton more body and weight, and so gives the skirt an A-line shape. The waistband has an adjustable drawstring with a section of elastic at the back for stretch and comfort. The gathers from the drawstring will need adjusting but we have tried to reduce the amount of fabric around the waist by gathering the fullness into the waistband seam. Of course if you are on the small end of the scale there will be a lot of gathers at the waist, or if you prefer a smoother waistband this might not suit you!

These skirt would also be fabulous to wear layered with dresses or our harvest smocks as a ‘petticoat’…. exactly what these garments were actually made for!
