NEW! RaasLeela Textiles: 'Wabi Sabi' Kantha Quilt #4

A$595.00

I don’t know where to start talking about RaasLeela and their products. As a textile designer and nerd I adore the work of Hetal Shrivastav and her team, I love the ethos behind the brand of using ‘kora’ (unbleached handwoven cotton) fabric, and salvaging offcuts and textile ‘waste’ to create beautiful and functional pieces. RaasLeela provides income and work for an all female team of artisans, during covid these makers have been able to work from home rather than the design studio.

The team draws on traditional Gujurati techniques of embroidery and appliqué in the creation of these fully hand stitched quilts in the ‘kantha’ style. These quilts are all double sided with one side made of pieced ends-of-yardage and production surplus checks and coloured plains, there might also be small patches added to these. The ‘kora’ side is appliqué with patches of all different shapes and sizes with even the smallest pieces of production waste being put to good use. Most of these patches are used directly without reshaping as they would have been discarded from cutting for manufacturing of garments etc. The layers are then stitched though with coloured thread and the edges bound to form the finished quilt. Even the ‘RaasLeela’ label is hand embroidered.

I love both sides equally and could happily stare at these quilts for hours!

Made from 100% handwoven cotton fabric in Gujarat, India.

Machine washable. Do not tumble dry or bleach.

Size: 70” x 90” (175 x 225cm)

Sorry for these photos not doing these quilts justice, they are just beautiful, the type of piece that will be on your bed all year round and in your life forever.
