Another style in our ‘utility range’. Practical garments in great fabrics! This shirt dress comes in two lengths, an around-knee length and a longer calf length, length always depends on your height and how you would like to wear the garment. At 6’1”/180cm I’m wearing the shorter version as a long shirt with jeans and layered with chunky knits but for those that would like to wear it as a dress or a longer shirt then we have the long option.

Based on a shirt block the front has a bodice with a seam running under low the bust, buttoned through with brass buttons handmade in India and the button facing is bound on the inside with Liberty tana lawn. The skirt is gathered and there are pockets in the side seam. The yoke at the back runs across the shoulder and the back is gathered generously across this line. The full length sleeves are comfortably loose without being overly full, they are finished with a simple hem and are perfect to roll up when you get hard at work.

We have done this style in four sizes, they are oversized and comfortable but the bodice cut gives the illusion of a more fitted garment. The shirt dress could be belted in if you like and the sizes can be played with, wearing very oversized or going down a size…. we always encourage you to ignore the size labels and have a play!

The fabric is from Japan and is a mix of cotton and linen. It has what I like to describe as a ‘canvas’ weave, not that it is heavyweight but that it is a tight and crisp handle. We’ve washed the dresses before going into the shop and the fabric washes up beautifully. Definitely don’t bother wasting time ironing!
